What is Global Citizen India?
Global Citizen is a community of people like you: people who want to learn about and take action on the world’s biggest challenges, and use their power to get other people involved as well.
We bring you stories and actions that make a difference. We partner with some of the most effective organisations fighting extreme poverty and inequality around India and the world, and support approaches that will make life more sustainable for people and the planet.
In the last thirty years, the rate of extreme poverty has halved, plummeting faster than any other time in history. Thanks to human ingenuity, we’ve pushed back disease, overcome ignorance, and seen the powerful potential unleashed when everyone, everywhere, has the chance to thrive. A child born today has a better chance of surviving, being healthy, and getting a quality education than in any generation before.
But one billion people are still trapped in extreme poverty, and it’s an affront to our common humanity and dignity. 800 million people will go to bed hungry tonight. More than 700 million are drinking dirty water, and more than two billion people don’t have a toilet. Many of them are Indian citizens.
Making a significant impact on ending extreme poverty requires each of us to play our part. No single person, government, business, or charity can do this alone.
It’ll be a long and hard path - sometimes we will fall and fail. But like the great independence and anti-apartheid movements before us, we will succeed because we are most powerful when we act together.
Extreme poverty persists in part because of our own actions and beliefs - including the existence of international policies and systems that keep people living in extreme poverty.
If we learn more about why extreme poverty exists, make informed consumer decisions, and use our voices to advocate for change, we can ensure that the businesses, organizations and governments around us are contributing to a world without extreme poverty. Global Citizen and our partners have a track record of running programs and campaigns that have real impact on the lives of the poor – and we hope that you’ll join us.
Global Citizen encourages us to learn more and take action on a range of issues related to extreme poverty, helping to build the movement that will end this scourge. We're not going to end extreme poverty by ourselves, and we're not going to do it in a day, a week, or even a year. But by being a part of a diverse movement of many organisations, all around the world, we can play our part in ending extreme poverty by 2030.
The money we give as individuals is important, but to bring about the end of extreme poverty, we also need governments and businesses to play their part: by changing rules, practices and giving money themselves.
For example, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, will save six million lives in the next five years - but to do so, it needed $7.5 billion to be secured by the end of 2015. Global Citizens, working in support of partners, called on governments and businesses to make this happen and in January, world leaders came together and committed the money to make this happen.
That’s why Global Citizen both supports individual charities, whilst also asking you to use your voice to encourage governments and others to play their part too.
What is Global Citizen Festival India ?
The Global Citizen Festival India is an action-rewarded, awareness-driven free music festival where fans and influencers engage with causes in order to win tickets. It is a celebration of change, where leaders, artists, and youth come together with the common goal of eradicating extreme poverty. Global Citizen Festival India will take place on the 19th of November in Mumbai. A number of artists will perform live throughout the day to catalyse conversations and commitments to generate change.
Where can I sign up to be a part of the initiative?
Visit www.globalcitizen.in and register to become a Global Citizen. You can start by taking actions like signing petitions, posting tweets, sending emails to world leaders, and more.
How does it work?
After signing up, take actions listed in the Action Journeys on www.GlobalCitizen.in to earn points. Actions include signing petitions, sharing posts via social media, writing letters to politicians to address world issues, and more. Once you have earned enough points, you will have the option to redeem these points by entering the draw for tickets to the festival. Points that have not been redeemed will carry over to the next Action Journey, and can be used towards future Action Journeys.
What if I do not have a Twitter account? How do I take the tweet actions?
You will have to set up a twitter account in order to take the tweet actions.
Do I have to pay anything?
Most tickets to the concert are completely FREE! All you have to do is earn points through your actions here to enter the draw!
How are prize draw winners selected?
Prize Draw winners are selected at random.
How will I know if I've won?
Winners will receive an email 72 hours after the Prize Draw closing date. All winners will receive two tickets to the festival. This email will request confirmation that the winner wants and is able to attend the festival along with a guest. This process will hold for all Action Journeys through which points can be earned.
How will I know if I haven’t won?
Global Citizen will not be able to individually contact or correspond with those who do not win tickets through our prize draws. We will only contact the winners 2-4 days after the Prize Draw closing date via email. If you do not receive an email identifying you as a winner (be sure to check your spam folder!), you can still participate in subsequent action journeys to try your luck again. You may participate in each of our 5 action journeys and earn points which can be redeemed for festival ticket draws.
If I win, what happens next?
Once you confirm that you are able to/want to attend, you will receive instructions via email on how to acquire your tickets and general festival entry details closer to the day of the event.
Will I get my points back if I don’t win?
No. Points, once redeemed, are not refundable.
What if I don’t respond?
Winners of Global Citizen Tickets are given 3 days (72 hours) to respond to their email notification that they have won. If correspondence is not received within that time frame, an email notification will be delivered to a “second place” winner, drawn during the original prize drawing. The process will then be continued once more.
Can anyone attend?
Can I give my tickets to someone else? Or sell them?
No. Tickets are non-transferable and selling tickets is not permitted. If you are unable to attend for any reason, please let us know by replying to the confirmation email as soon as possible.
